RATIONALE Charges for SPEECH DAY & CLUBS

Speech day is culmination of all year learning at the school, children practice for its presentation every day, every week in one form of the other, there is no way we can segregate in class while learning or practicing by stopping children whose parents have not opted for it.  The programme itself requires school to work on additional costs like  inviting a trainer, looking for costumes, organizing for stage among others. Additionally since it is a get together , parents are invited for a special lunch with their children, all these is not covered under normal curriculum schooling, hence a nominal cost is attached. Additional it is done  only in the  last term , we cannot charge for this in term 1 and term 2 .  Therefore, as a policy this is compulsory for all student in term 3, with nominal fee attached to it to cover the cost.

Of clubs, it is important o understand Why clubs? Pre covid - DAS was always a 21st century skills school, the clubs are essential component of teaching children these skills - collaboration, critical thinking, technology and others. It is a statement for what the DAS Network stands for, post covid, due to challenges which we saw with parents in terms of paying for clubs, we had to hold on, until things became better, a big section of parents demanded for them, and we have therefore re-introduced them.  We also incur costs to run these programmes . Consequently, students have to opt for at least one and at max 2 of the available clubs, if parent has not come to school to tell us their preference, we put the children in computer club.
